We order different drinks at the same bars….

So its been six days since Lorde dropped her latest single Green Light and in that time I’ve realised once again I am vastly unqualified to write anything meaningful about a piece of music I like… but here goes anyways

So on Friday and had the day at home… and was frantically refreshing my iTunes, youtube and twitters at 8am waiting for the single to drop- which it did for me at around 8:02, as the still unplayed iTunes purchase downloaded I fired up the video… played… listened and thought yeah nah… hit replay and thought actually this is pretty good… I like and wish the piano line was the song not just a part… I wasn’t so taken by the modern pop musical elements at the end… I hadn’t listened that closely to the lyrics… so I repeated it again, and again and again and with each play I listened less closely and allowed the song to simply sit and sink in.

The result being I really dig her lyrics, again.

Lorde’s strength is words and hell if I was a couple of generations younger I’d have scrap booked the fuck out of the song cause you know love lost hurts… moving on is scary and liberating….

Musically as stated I’m not that fussed on the pop elements – but I’m not a pop kid… I love my pop out of the formulaic, you know where it fucking shines and doesn’t need to be shined. However Green light has enough to be pop and not enough to be derivative of what I imagine is the staple pop hit these days. it works in other words, the piano line is great and house… I hope the album isn’t all like this… yet won’t be sad if it is.

I’m down to one listen a day now and soon will need to give Lorde a break, cause while a fan I’m not a drooling fool – I’ve other things that I want to listen to, like cicadas.
