Let me just start by saying, praise jebus for music. In the bleakness that has been the last few weeks down this end of the world, holding onto sanity has been difficult of late, so I’ve been thankful for a few things that have been warming my spirit.

I’m not using the term “music” loosely here, I’m talking about that stuff that can instantly change your mood, make you remember, put you in another place…..or simply “fix” you. Last week I saw “Respect Yourself – The Stax Records Story” at the film festival, which is, as the title suggests, the story of Stax Records – the label behind the emergence of southern soul music in the 60s (think Otis Redding, Booker T & The MGs, Sam & Dave, The Staple Sisters, Isaac Hayes etc). Its a great watch, and one I’d recommend to anyone thats even slightly interested in music.

So after digging through all the stax records I could find and getting my soul on, I decided to try and find something that fits my mood of late and delves into the realms of the deep a little more.

First up, a set from Lexx (aka Kawabata) – another of the zurich house crew. The set comes with a disclaimer from the man that “THIS IS NOT A CLUB SET“.

Another set that had been getting a bit of a thrashing of late is John Daly’s June Promo mix which I grabbed off soundcloud (hat tip to Brooke). Everytime I hear the keys in the opening track (Mr Cisco – Cosmic) I feel the need to climb inside, give them a big hug and them it will be OK.

Don’t have a full tracklist for this, but enjoying it nonetheless! Quite like the comment someone else made, that it was “deep-detroit-disco-boogie-kraft-3000″……which pretty much sums it up nicely.

Experiment with magic………but don’t dabble with enchantments unless you are very brave. Once the magical vibrations are set into motion, they can never be recalled.

Quarion from Drumpoet Community will be gracing Auckland next weekend (Saturday June 28th), playing (the most unlikely of clubs) Khuja Lounge.

I’m pretty excited about this, as drumpoet seems to be somewhat of an unhealthy obsession of mine at the moment (for those interested, checkout Drumpoems Verse 1 which is a collection of some of the drumpoet releases featuring Quarion, Manuel Tur, Soultourist, Kawabata and Sasha Dive to name a few).

First up is Manuel Tur, who is also one of my favourite producers so far this year. I can’t seem to get enough of his deep take on house (plus he seems to share my love of stabby keys). I’m not too sure where this set came from, but its damn good proper music – grab it now.
