A weekend of music

This weekend sees a few musical happenings in Auckland, which is welcome as its been pretty musically dry here lately.
Friday night Beatstreet is back – with local Poker Flat/Moon Harbour/Curl Curl boy Simon Flower playing live, alongside birthday boy Matt Drake & Brooke Casey.
On Saturday night I finally get to get my dub techno on with Rhythm & Sound and Tikiman at Totos. Unfortunately Moritz won’t be here due to ill health, but as long as I hear mango drive I’ll walk away more than happy.
Derrick Carter is also in …

Booka Shade Live @ Studio in Auckland – Friday November 19th

Booka Shade will be bringing their live show to the Studio in Auckland this Friday. It has to be said that we don’t often get large electronic acts of this calibre down this way – so it will be great to see a big scale event for something other than trance!

From the promoter:
Booka Shade will be performing live in concert on November 21, 2008 at Studio. Their live performance is simply unbelievable. They’re dubbed by many as the best live electronic act in the world!
Booka Shade will tour their 3rd …

Deetron in the AK

Its a bit of a hectic night in Auckland-town tonight – with a few internationals all touching down at the same time. Mark Farina and Danny Howells are both in town for those interested, but the majority of the BMP will be heading along to Deetron @ Ink.
Last time he was in town he trucked through a few sound problems and a poorly promoted gig – but those that headed along, me included, left damn impressed as the ease in which he was jumping between house and techno without a …

It isn’t house but it is a thing.

There are some things on in Auckland this weekend.
Tomorrow night (friday 15) I venture into the rain to play at the supperclub on Beresford square. I like supper – despite having a dodgy rep (thanks mainly to the antics of late morning up all night mentalist partygoers) it is generally a relaxed place where you can pretty much play whatever music you like. On an early evening in summer there are few better places in Auckland to be. On a night like tomorrow promises to be I …

Quarion in Auckland

Quarion from Drumpoet Community will be gracing Auckland next weekend (Saturday June 28th), playing (the most unlikely of clubs) Khuja Lounge.
I’m pretty excited about this, as drumpoet seems to be somewhat of an unhealthy obsession of mine at the moment (for those interested, checkout Drumpoems Verse 1 which is a collection of some of the drumpoet releases featuring Quarion, Manuel Tur, Soultourist, Kawabata and Sasha Dive to name a few).
I found a recent Quarion set from last month over here which aint too bad at all.
