It’s been a hell of a emotional few days with plenty more to come as we and our wee country grapples with the aftermath of the terrorist action at the two Muslim Mosques in Christchurch. At times like this I often find solace in music, soothing, calming and angry music… something to channel my emotions into and something to sooth the roller coaster of thoughts going through my head.

I’ve struggled to find the right song or songs to help here, which is unsurprising given the nature of what’s happened. I’m numb and sad and also deeply embarrassed, this shouldn’t happen here, Muslims (any faith) should be safe and free to be themselves without fear… for we pretend our little corner of the globe isn’t like this… but inside we know we’re no better or worse than anyplace else.

I mourn for those that lost their life, grieve for those that now have to carry on without those they’ve lost. The dozens, hundreds and thousands of lives now changed.

Yesterday work held a company wide minutes silence which I observed, alone in my little home office… the only thing I could hear was the birds, gently singing their song as they went about their day… theirs is my song of the week.
