More hitters from on form labels Livity Sound and Whities again in 2018. Rekids also released a heap of bangers.
Some highlights from some records I picked up in this playlist:

Favourite YouTube discovery of the year is David Portnoy’s daily Pizza Reviews around NYC and the East Coast. One bite, everybody knows the rules.

These reviews were previously uploaded on the Barstool Sports account. Bill Burrs included:

Stand Up highlight was probably Bert Kreischer Secret Time – tempted to go see him when he comes to Auckland in June.

Favourite podcast is still Your …

2018 was fucking dark man. Don’t know if it’s me getting older, the prevailing authoritarian fascist leanings of international politics, or the increasing rate of ecological collapse, but I found it hard to keep a spring in my step this year.
Spending time with my friends and family was good, drinking helps obviously, and of course music, which goes well with these. I couldn’t get hold of nearly as much music as I wanted this year, but I think I’ve increasingly nailed the process of finding …

It’s been a couple of months, and in defiance of all logic, music continued to be released unabated, unheeding my lack of ability to buy it. For my records and your possible interest, here are some picks from the last few months. Get in there:

Here we go, at it again for another month of musical picks largely useful for my own records and future recollections. Despite my indifference to it this year, record store day stuff snuck in..

Here’s a playlist of some of my favourite record pickups from last year.
Great year for the label Whities.
I was underwhelmed with the Superpitcher LP, released as 24 tracks over the 12 months with 1 12″ per month. The only stand out for me was the track Brothers.
Expect to hear some of these out the back of mine this Summer!

I won’t bore Mick with a song this week… as I’ve been pretty much listening to The Sleaford Mods non stop… it is election time and they’re my modern go to for anger, energy and some rough and ready drum programming, so rather than a tweet tweet tweet, BHS rant here’s some telly action.

One of my favourite authors is Phillp K Dick – a man whose many stories have been so badly served by the movie and TV industries… and this week I stumbled upon a new show based on …

Some new music recently from Ninja Tune – a label that I’ve always loved and been into up and down over the years depending on my level of weed intake and/or interest in the kind of sample based trip hop I initially associated them with. For long stretches I haven’t paid much attention to them but they’re still going after 27 years so respect for that at least. This year however they seem to have some interesting releases lined up with the two I’m about to mention …

Finally out floating around on vinyl is Superpitcher’s rework of Joakim’s cover of Neil Young’s “on the beach”. For awhile in the mid 00s Superpitcher was one of my favourite producers and while I no longer check his stuff religiously I have a soft spot for this mix.

Here’s the original Neil Young which I’ve always enjoyed too.
