Cosmic Space Jazz Techno

Ricardo Villalobos & Jay Haze – Mellow Dee / Sunday Prayer

The other morning after arriving at work and doing the daily music discovery rounds, I came across a new Villalobos track that I hadn’t heard mentioned so decided I needed to grab it as it had been awhile in between Ricardo tracks for me.
It starts off somewhat non-chalantly with a rumbling scratchy bass & kick, then the pitter patter of some jazz snares, a piercing clarinette………all of it works really nicely. Then somehow the trippy space effects and filters surround you …

Goodtimes – Drumpoet on Acid

Willie Graff And Tuccillo – When The Sun Goes Down [Drumpoet]
After going through a bit of a full on love affair with drumpoet for awhile, I was pretty pleased to discover this new one on the weeekend. After listening to the track I had to do a bit of research as Willie Graff was a new name to me. Apparently he is a resident at Cielo in New York…….no further explanation needed. Anyway, the track builds from a deep, dark, moody start, some strings appear (as you would expect from drumpoet) – then the coup …

Wooooah……Easy Tiger

A quick monday morning post from me to get the week underway.
Nothing like a little Dinky, the perfect way to start the day with some nice summery deep vibes (I’m enjoying this one a LOT more than her RA podcast).
Dinky Ibiza Voice Podcast: http://www.ibiza-voice.com/sessions/media/Dinky_Ibiza_Voice_Podcast.mp3
Then once I’ve eased myself into the day, I’ll likely be giving the DJ Bone LWE podcast another listen (very detroit – websta won’t like it).

Christian Gangster Rap and High Energy Deep House

Let me just start by saying, praise jebus for music. In the bleakness that has been the last few weeks down this end of the world, holding onto sanity has been difficult of late, so I’ve been thankful for a few things that have been warming my spirit.
I’m not using the term “music” loosely here, I’m talking about that stuff that can instantly change your mood, make you remember, put you in another place…..or simply “fix” you. Last week I saw “Respect Yourself – The Stax Records Story” at the …

Freaken Lazers Man! Kerri Chandler playing with lazer controllers

This video clip of Kerri Chandler using a lazer controller while playing Bar A Thym has always been a favourite of mine – very minority report and probably one of those love it or hate it things. Either way, you have to admit its better than a cube that changes colour.
(The good bit starts 1.30 into the clip – after all the fluff).

Kerri explains it a little more in this interview

An ode to Detroit…..or not

Over the last few weeks, as happens following every DEMF, the inevitable arguments seemed to have flared up again about the roots of techno and the part Detroit plays in the overall scheme of electronic music. To summarize the argument, it basically holds that Detroit should be recognised as the home of techno and without Detroit, there wouldn’t be techno.
If you want to really get into it, there is an interesting 4 part writeup at mnmlssg, with 4 somewhat differing viewpoints on the subject. (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, …
