Music so bad its good

Us resident stink fingerites have seriously sound music taste, we are taste makers… what we like is always worth checking out if not grabbing somewhere somehow – modest much… fuck that shit we are musical gods… worship us!
Yet even we the pillars of good taste and fashionable trouser suits sometimes get it wrong – or did we…
Every now and then one stumbles upon a album or artist whose work is so shockingly bad on every musicial level that it is actually rather good, sometimes brilliant.
So with this thought firmly planted …

The Real Reason MP3s Rule

Moving day and a record collection do not go hand in hand…. so dreading putting my records back in order – its been over 10 years since they have been so orderless, kind of dreading it to be honest, so time consuming… I am also looking forward to finding slabs of wax I had forgot I had and re meeting old friends.
New Shelves for records to, which is my next task… building, the perfect job for a bob.

Enemies List

From my fave music industry commentator, (if you hadn’t guessed I’m the industry wanker at stink finger), Bob Lefsetz comes this amusing and accurate Enemies List. For those new to Bob, the other one, check the link below and join his email list – he’s a prolific and opinionated man, beware his music rants, he has to my ears shocking taste – do read them though as he has passion and thats what digging this music stuff is ALL about.

Kimya Dawson – Auckland Girls Grammer Hall 24/6/08

I couldn’t tell you the last time I set foot in a school grounds let alone attended a concert at a school, lets say its been a while… however there was no way I was going to miss seeing Kimya Dawson, a anti folk singer I have listened to on and off for some years.
I’d like to say I’ve been a fan for years but that would be a lie – rather I was aware of her via the moldy peaches the band she formed with Adam Green and had …

Sometimes the best sound is…

…silence
Having just spent sometime outside the city I have had the great joy to actually have had moments when the only sound was silence – sometimes interupted by some bird calls. Now that I am back in the 09 I can hear the constant drone of the motorway and as comforting as this actually is, I shall miss the nothingness of silence

My musicial palette now cleansed and as such I am now about to dive headfirst into some old Factory Records stuff, ACR, Stockholm Monsters, Joy Division et al… for …

Universal loses promo CD battle

Music giant Universal Music Group has lost a court battle to stop an eBay trader from reselling promotional CDs he had bought from second hand stores …
Dismissing the American case, US District Court Judge S James Otero said that Mr Augusto was protected by the “first sale” doctrine in copyright law.
This says that once a copyright owner gives away a copy of a CD, DVD or book, the recipient is entitled to sell it on.

Music is a universal language

yet the BMP has its own form of dialogue.
Like the voyagers of the starship enterprise we seek new noises that move us physically, emotionally and sometimes intellectually.
We members of the BMP share common interests in the realms of modern music, yet we also have our own areas of expertese and obsession.
If the other fuckers ever post perhaps they will share some of theirs.
Me I am quite taken by anti folk right now – if I could work out how to add a file or get stink finger not to mock me …

Music

We live in a world of corrupt radio, concert ticket price-gouging, product placement in songs, Chain Store censorship—not to mention war, poverty, global warming and the so called food crisis.
Music keeps us going through it all
Music makes us feel good
Music carries us past the stress
Music inspires us
Music makes the connections between people that give us hope for the future
Music insists that a better world is possible and music makes us believe that this can be true

and if Music can’t do this for us there is always beer and pizza
