Requiem by Killing Joke was released in September 1980 as the second single from their eponymous debut album – one of the great albums of that era methinks, it still sounds ground breaking a hundred years later.
Hell even the Foo Fighters covered Requiem, their version isn’t as bad as you’d think but the vocals are pants.
After watching that you’d think anything can be made better by the application of lego, and to some degree you’re right…
….but there is always the exception to the rule.

This week’s mix pick by me is probably better suited for colder times, or at least the wee small hours when you find yourself restless and sleepless and just a little frightened. Ideal for my office listening post it is not, yet I can’t stop playing it.

Williams noting that Rose’s contribution to Hank’s songs was probably craftsmanship, whereas Williams’ was genius. Roy Acuff later recalled:
“Hank would come up with the ideas, and Fred would say, ‘Well, write it down and let me look at it.’ Hank’d bring it to Fred, and Fred would sit at the piano …
I’ve the joy and privilege of sharing a home with a young aspiring producer who at 13 years old is just starting to muck about with production and finding that music which moves him.
This week he dropped Wasp on his Soundcloud page created in Fruity Loops, its pretty fab.
Can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.
February has arrived and we’ve decided to go with something a little different for episode 21 of the Phonica Mix Series. Andrew Weatherall is a legend of the UK music scene and also one of our regulars here at the shop. We’ve always considered him to have a finely tuned ear and he loves to dig for music across all genres and styles. We always wanted him to contribute to the series and this month’s episode is one of the most original submissions we’ve had as it doesn’t contain a …
