Its not that often something really interesting and electronic comes out of this country – its not that we are heathens or uninformed, quite the opposite I’d wager… yet our producers are still thin on the ground and generally their ears and output are in very different musical places.
One of the few long term and consistently interesting producers from here, I think, would have to be Bevan Smith (aka Signer/Aspen/Skallander) whose been making really interesting music for over a decade.
Bevan Smith, a New Zealander who has released music under names like Signer and Aspen, …

This popped up on my soundcloud feed the other day and on a whim I grabbed the bugger – which was a pain cause its free download via hypeddit.com which is the most irritating means to get free anything (oh how I hate thee hypeddit)… normally I’d bail rather than log into soundcloud leave a comment before I’d listened and the other hoops one has to jump through to grab said mix. As it was a slow day I jumped, I jumped and then I had it.
Its a solid not …

Dunno about the vocals – I find them a bit (lot)… but Skream’s edit of ‘Free Falling’ is still bloody good.
Second Skream remix/edit I’ve loved in a few short weeks, boom!
Not sure if this is my song of the week yet – so stay tuned

A cracking three hour mix and top read by Ralph Lawson celebrating the Mint with tracks that span an important era for the BMP posse (I am guessing).
I hate the music being too loud when a club is filling up as people have no time to socialise and chat.  The warm up should be just that – a warm up.  It seems a lost art form today.  We’d keep the volume down really low for the first two hours and play slower tempo music with brighter ambient lighting. Then every week …

I’d say todays mix choose is a lazy selection…. cause it comes from the soundcloud account I grab everything from and have yet to be disappointed with the results. So yeah I’m lazy… and this is pretty fucking awesome
ROD is the incarnation of Dutch multi talent Benny Rodrigues. For the last four years it is a moniker that has found the Dutchman exploring supple, fulsome techno sounds with a healthy dose of funk. To date his functional characterful EPs have come on labels like Klockworks, Field Records and CLR. Intense …

As a youth one of the very first local bands I fell for was a band that had formed in my town, (it was a city then), and the singer had gone to my high school for a period too. They were super cool thanks primarily to their ultra cool lead singer… his fashion sense and swagger were everything I thought was cool… I wanted to emulate both but never did as I was a gormless fool.
They were the first band I ever tried to see in a pub and …

I’ve never been a fan of the Chemical Brothers, they’re one of those electronic acts that I consider do dance music for rock fans and while it would be wrong of me to say their music isn’t without merit they don’t need my fandom and I sure as shit don’t need them in my life. File alongside Fatboy Slim, latter era Prodigy and well most chart topping “electronic” acts… yes I am a music snob!
I’d say I have a no Chem’s rule in my musical voyaging but only an idiot has …

Born and raised on the mean streets of Auckland, Lelo, AKA Scooter , started his musical journey when he was 115, when he was given a slap by the security guard at the local branch of Woolworths. It was at this moment that Scooter knew he wanted to be part of ‘The Scene’.
He first became interested in the electronic music scene in 1989.
In 1888, aged 14, his Mum and Dad bought him his first set of turntables. At the age of 17, he was already being touted as Auckland’s answer to …
