2008’s best of yesteryear

Written by: 24 December 2008 5 Comments

Well, today is the last day before chrisbo…
I’m at work. Everyone else is either on holiday or on the other side of the world.
I am bored to tears.

So I am gonna make some inane list to occupy my time

Best Music of 2008 not from 2008!!!

Fave Mix I heard this year not from this year?

Prins Thomas RA Podcast
Wow, how did I miss this again?
A live mix that just rulz from yay to nay.  Featuring and extended mix edit of `that’ LCD Soundsystem tune.

Fave Lp’s I heard this year not from this year?

Studio – Yearbook 1 & 2
Sheesh! Thanks to Mick and Benny for this!  I have been hammering this since I finally found it.  I haven’t enjoyed a new artist this much for years, top biscuit!

The Stooges – The Stooges, Raw Power, Fun House.
Couldn’t be any later on this….
But, after reading a rather ordinary book about Mr Pop I decided to grab all the lps that sounded cool.  They sound cool!

Panda Bear – Person Pitch
This is just amazing!
Thers a bit on the lp that sounds as if your sat on the side of a lake listening to a live band playing facing the other way on the other side of the lake.
 C’mon! that’s well cool!

Websta, did you ever get around to listening to El Guincho – Alegranza!?
He’s from Barcelona. Panda Bear wrote Person Pitch in Lisbon, so you could almost say it’s like a Portugal vs Spanish thing and they’re both great..

Best record not from this year that i discovered was Bonnie Prince Billy Sings Greatest Palace Music. Hat tip Bob, who gave it to me.
Don’t think i discovered any old sets this year though.

along with the new animal collective thing

yea, i think if you wait another few days there will be better versions of Merriweather Post Pavilion. Requires some decent speakers too!

    Everyone back from Waiheke?

    Anyone check out Radio Slave?

I really need new headphones before I can listen to the new Animal Collective – my current 30$ in ear buds seem to accentuate treble to the point where it is uncomfortable. (whinging over)
