Hot
– Four Months of not working over Summer: ’nuff said.
– The Stax Records Documentary: without a doubt the highlight of this years Auckland Film Fesitval…I’ve never walked out of a movie theatre with a massive smile, feeling so damn good about everything, and with a strong desire to immediately break into all the local music stores to try and collect all the outstanding music that I had just sampled. Props to the Ninja for …

Just in time for dOP. They were fun. We sat down and …

Mick’s favourite (most played) albums of 2008

Here goes…

Deerhunter – Weird Era Cont/Microcastle
Back when Atlas Sound came out at the start of the year, i thought my love affair was over with Bradford Cox. Turns out, it wasn’t His solo-ish side project Atlas Sound turned out to be a much needed breath of fresh air from the Deerhunter sound. I still haven’t listened to it nearly enough to warrent it a place in my favourite albums. I think the fact he wrote most of it about being stuck in hospital beds and in his room turned me …

Top Mixes 2008!

1 of the joys of my employment is that I have a stereo to myself all day, every day with no cloth eared tit telling me to `turn off the gay shit’. So I get to listen to top gay shit all day long, result!
As the year comes to an end I have found myself with a few minutes spare and an ipod `mixes’ folder with 51 separate mixes in it.  So here is a list of all the ones I went back to again and again this year. This is …

So the NZ contingent of the BMP have just recently returned back from a most successful weekender in Sydney, as we’ve been rabbitting on about for awhile now.

Greg Wilson & Luciano on a boat only a 3 hour flight away. We’re there.
Huge amounts of planning went into preparing for the trip, so much so that I realised I hadn’t actually applied for leave from work until 2 days beforehand. That said, I had managed to sort out the somewhat elusive boat tickets for the BMP well in advance, so the …

The man from the land of convicts, with a moustache

Playing for their fourth and final time in London this year, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds lived up to and exceeded expectations I had grown since purchasing a couple of tickets for my friends birthday when they went on sale back in August… Since then I’ve mostly been listening to Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!! and the Boatmans Call. Mostly Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!!
Bursting on to stage in his swanky tailored suit, Nick and the band punched their way in to Hold On To Yourself before breaking in to Dig, Lazrus Dig’s …

Driving to a land of convicts to listen to a man with a moustache

Decemeber 6th sees the 2nd officially sanctioned BMP roadtrip, this time crossing the tasman to see Luciano play on a boat in Sydney harbour.
Seeing as the first Dixon roadtrip with the now infamous kermit-mobile went so well, the early signs are all participants are holding grand hopes of a most excellent adventure.
The boat is due to leave 11am sharp with Greg Wilson playing a 4 hour opening set, followed by a 4 hour stint from Luciano. Great work by PulseFM for managing to tee up such a great lineup and a …
